A Decision in Two Parts

What does Gudea look like in the first second a citizen opens it?

This document presents six directional studies for the Gudea splash screen, organised as two sequential decisions. First, choose the tone. Then, if the tone is "Premium Dark," choose its temperament. The tone of voice. Three options.

Each of these takes the same statue, the same wordmark, the same animation timing. What changes is the surface — paper or green or warm-paper — and the small grace notes around the edge. The choice is what tone of voice the brand should speak in: institutional, authoritative, or local.

The most considered, most quiet of the three. Closer to a museum catalogue or a financial report than a startup. The typography breathes; nothing competes for attention.

Brand-green ground with subtle radial atmosphere, slim progress hairline.

The voice of authority. Reads as the regulator, not the consumer — the body that sets standards, not the body that follows them. Closest in tone to existing Gulf-region pharma authority apps.

Warm paper, Arabic-first wordmark, Iraqi flag stripe at the foot.

The most Iraqi of the three. Speaks directly to a local audience without translation overhead — the Arabic typography leads, the flag colours close the composition. Reads as a national project, not an imported one.

Decision Two · If Premium Dark

Refining the green. Three temperaments.

If the answer to Decision One is Premium Dark, then a second question opens: how should the green feel? The same deep-forest ground can carry three quite different personalities — quiet authority, museum heritage, or Sumerian distinction. None of these are unrelated to each other; pick the one whose risk you'd rather accept.

A gold tagline and a thin progress hairline replace the white versions. Same composition, slightly warmer voice — the gold gives it the formality of a government seal without becoming ornamental.

Near-black green, a thin gold frame, and a serif datestamp.

The artwork sits inside its frame the way a Sumerian tablet sits in a museum case. The Roman-numeral datestamp ties the modern institution to its three-thousand-year namesake. Most heritage of the four.

Cuneiform Field

A subtle wedge-mark pattern across the entire ground.

The pattern references the cuneiform script on the actual statue's tablet. The pattern can extend into other parts of the app — loading states, empty states, header backgrounds — making the splash a system, not just a screen. Most distinctive.

Decision Three · If Cuneiform Field

The endorsement question. Two integrations.

The Cuneiform Field needs to carry the Ministry of Health and Pharmacists Syndicate endorsements on the splash itself. Two ways to integrate the official marks — one preserves the design, the other preserves the artwork.

The official artwork is flattened to a single white tone so it sits inside the splash the way the kūdyā wordmark does — same surface, same voice. The composition stays clean and the visual hierarchy is preserved, but the Ministry's logo is no longer in its true colors.

Cuneiform Field with the Ministry of Health mark in its official colors inside a white badge.

The Ministry's mark is preserved exactly as issued — no color modification, no tinting. The white badge gives it the contrast it needs against the dark green, but introduces a bright element into a composition that was deliberately quiet. The official artwork is respected; the cost is a small visual interruption.

The selected direction. Selected

The chosen composition for production: Cuneiform Field as the splash, the Ministry of Health mark tinted to monochrome white for the cleanest integration, the Pharmacists Syndicate alongside it in the same treatment, and the full Gudea lockup (with its own embedded shield, wordmark, Iraq flag stripe, and tagline). The statue plays its full morph animation into the shield up top, so the splash carries two shields by the end — one from the morph (heritage), one inside the brand mark (identity). Two language builds shown side by side; both ship.

The Ministry of Health and Pharmacists Syndicate endorsements sit beneath it in matching monochrome white.

The Arabic-language build. Same statue→shield morph as the English version, with the full Arabic Gudea lockup beneath: «كوديا» as the primary wordmark and «المنظومة الوطنية للدواء» as the tagline, locked together with the Iraqi flag stripe between them. The caption is translated to «لوح كوديا، نحو ٢١٢٠ ق.م.» so the historical reference reads natively to Arabic users.

An alternative. Single shield.

Same morph animation as Section 4, but the wordmark below is the text-only Gudea lockup (no embedded shield) — so the splash ends with one shield instead of two. Cleaner hierarchy at the cost of losing the «complete brand mark» feel.

An alternative. With the ruler.

Same B3 + Tinted MOH composition, but the statue does not morph into the shield (stays visible to the end), and the wordmark is the full Gudea lockup with its own embedded shield. Pairs the literal portrait of Gudea (the ruler himself) with the modern brand mark — heaviest on heritage, slightly busier visually.

Section Seven · Vitrine Explorations

The statue is out. New ways to open.

The Gudea statue has been retired from the splash. The Vitrine background (deep near-black green) is kept — it's the most institutional of the surfaces — and different shield treatments are explored on it. None use the statue. The Aura treatment is shown first in both language builds; three further treatments follow for comparison.

The shield emerges from the dark and a single radial halo pulses outward, then settles into a steady glow. The shield itself stays anchored — the halo does the storytelling. Reads as quiet authority: «we don't need to shout; we're already here». The simplest of the four, the most institutional.

A small clay-tablet plate appears with subtle cuneiform texture etched into it, then the shield drops in and «stamps» onto the plate with a soft inset shadow. References the Tablet of Gudea without showing the literal statue — heritage stays in the room, but as material rather than portrait.

A gold ring draws itself around the shield with a slight rotation and settles into a triple-line circular frame — outer hairline, primary ring, inner hairline. Two small gold ticks anchor it at left and right. Reads as «official seal»: the visual grammar of a passport stamp or a ministry crest, but stripped of any literal heraldry.

The Sindibad playbook: brand-first, instant, confident. No halos, no rings, no morphs — the shield fades in with a single subtle scale, the wordmark follows half a second later, the endorsements settle. Five seconds, three elements, done. The shortest path to recognition; the closest to «we trust our mark to do the work alone».

Management Note

We reviewed three main splash screen directions.

  1. Editorial Light

    A clean and safe design, but it looks common and may not make the app feel unique.

    الفاتح البسيط — تصميم نظيف وآمن، لكنّه شائع وقد لا يعطي التطبيق هوية مميّزة.

  2. Premium Dark

    The strongest direction. It gives the application a more official, trusted, and regulatory feeling. This is the recommended direction.

    الأخضر الفاخر — هو الاتجاه الأقوى. يعطي التطبيق إحساساً رسمياً، موثوقاً، ومناسباً لمنظومة تنظيمية وطنية. لذلك نوصي باعتماده.

  3. Heritage Arabic

    It feels local and Iraqi, but it may look more cultural than official. For a national drug system, the design should feel authoritative first.

    التراث العربي — يعطي إحساساً محلياً وعراقياً، لكنه قد يظهر كتصميم ثقافي أكثر من كونه تصميماً رسمياً. وبما أن النظام يخصّ تنظيم الدواء، فالأولوية أن يظهر بشكل سلطوي وموثوق.

Premium Dark
الاتجاه المختار: الأخضر الفاخر

After choosing Premium Dark as the main direction, we developed three variations from it.

بعد اختيار الأخضر الفاخر كاتجاه رئيسي، تم تطوير ثلاث نسخ منه.

  1. Forest Authority

    Simple, official, and easy to approve. It is the safest version, but also the least distinctive.

    الأخضر المؤسسي — نسخة بسيطة ورسمية وسهلة الاعتماد. هي الأكثر أماناً، لكنها الأقلّ تميّزاً.

  2. Vitrine

    A balanced option. It adds a heritage feeling without making the design too complex or too artistic.

    الفاترينة — خيار متوازن. يضيف لمسة تراثية دون أن يجعل التصميم معقّداً أو فنياً أكثر من اللازم.

  3. Cuneiform Field

    The most distinctive version. It connects the brand visually to Iraqi / Mesopotamian history through the cuneiform pattern. This gives the design a stronger identity, but it must be used carefully so it still feels official and modern.

    النمط المسماري — النسخة الأكثر تميّزاً. تربط هوية التطبيق بصرياً بالتاريخ العراقي / الرافدي من خلال النمط المسماري. هذا يعطي التصميم هوية أقوى، لكن يجب استخدامه بحذر حتى يبقى التصميم رسمياً وحديثاً.

We recommend proceeding with Premium Dark, then choosing between:
